Temple University Hospital Auxiliary Holds 25th Annual "Acres of Diamonds" Gala, Benefitting the Temple Burn Center

The Temple University Hospital Auxiliary will host the 2012 "Acres of Diamonds" Gala on Saturday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at The Westin Philadelphia, 99 South 17th Street. This year's event — chaired by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Giagnacova — honors the Temple Burn Center, the region's only adult Burn Center at a Level I Trauma Center.

The 2012 Diamond Award will be presented to Dr. William Hughes, Medical Director of The Temple Burn Center. The Temple Burn Center offers a wide range of care for adults, treating over 300 inpatients and 2,300 outpatients annually for everything from skin grafts to rehab to psychological counseling. Regardless of the extent of the injury, all burn patients treated in the Temple University Hospital emergency room are fast-tracked and seen by Burn Center specialists. The Burn Center also presents community lectures and seminars on fire prevention and burn care.

"The Diamond Award recognizes individuals for their social responsibility to the human family at large and the Temple family in particular," said Dr. Robert McNamara, Chair of Emergency Medicine, Temple University School of Medicine and Temple University Hospital. "Temple's Burn Center provides complex acute care in a dedicated, state-of-the art intensive-care unit staffed by physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other specialists who have the emotionally challenging job of caring for patients who are often in severe pain."

The Diamond Award, which is presented each year at the Gala, was established in 1991. Previous Diamond Award recipients include Eugene "Fitz" Dixon, Jr., past chairman of the Temple University Board of Trustees and former owner of the Philadelphia 76ers; John C. Haas, philanthropist and former retired chairman of the Rohm and Haas Company; Milton L. Rock, philanthropist and chairman of MLR Holdings, LLC; and CBS3 Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl.
